Approximately 1.5 million calves are reared each year in NZ – 1 million dairy heifers and 500,000 bull calves.  The dairy heifers are future herd replacements and how they are reared will affect how they grow and what weight they enter the herd.  This website provides independent advice to New Zealand calf rearers. Information on this site has been put together by staff at On-Farm Research who have been involved with calf rearing research at the Poukawa Research Farm since 1996.
